Yuxi-Jingle-Nunnery-in-Yimen-County

Jingle Nunnery is a key cultural relic protection unit of Yuxi. It is located on the side of Bailong Mountain, east of Sanjia Village that is about 30 kilometers north of the downtown. It was first built in West Han Dynasty and was expanded in Tang Dynasty. During Republic of China, it was renovated several times. In 1928, after a visit to the nunnery, the Chairman of Yunnan Government Long Yun donated 600 yuan, with some savings of the nunnery, to renovate the major hall and change the terrace on the south into a small building. Recent renovation started in the mid-1980s when tourism was developed here.

The nunnery takes an area of 28 mu in total and a construction area 5,600 square meters, with three sides surrounded by mountains.
