The Red Army Festival of Chuxiong is annually held in each late April near Jinsha River of Jiangbian Town of Yuanmou County.
In May 1935, the 1st Division of the Red Army pretended to ferry across Jinsha River (the Yangtze or Changjiang River) at Jiangbian thus diverting the attention of the Kuomintang Army, a situation which later on helped the Red Army ferry across Jinsha River smartly. Programs for the festival include "re-taking the Long March route in Jiangbian" and watching the slogans of the Red Army etc.
