Dongbahui (Gathering of Dongba) Festival is annually spent on lunar March 5th when Dongas (priests) from all over Lijiang head for Yushuizhai (the Jade Water Village) to join in the grand event. During the festival, Dongbas will chant sutras, holding sacrificial ceremonies for Dongbashenluo-the founder of Dongba Religion of the Naxi Minority in Lijiang. Dongbahui Festival turns out to be a golden opportunity for Dongba priests to exchange experience with or learn from each other. They will spare no effort to showcase talents and techniques by staging unique sutra-chanting and Dongba Dance in styles of their own.
