Dec 26 saw Black Dragon Pool Park of Kunming hold the opening ceremony of the 1st Plum Blossom Festival of Yunnan Province.
Though it was quite chilly, the passion of citizens of Kunming never cooled down for the event. Tens of thousands of plum plants, planted in pots or ground, are blooming in the Park, adding much to the fame of Kunming as the “Spring City of China”.
In each December, these plum trees in Black Dragon Pool are seen bear blossoms one after another, giving birth to a winter wonder in Southwest China. The festival, sponsored by Kunming Landscaping Bureau and the Black Dragon Pool Park etc, exhibited over 17,000 plum trees of 200 species, covering 520 Mu (appr. 0.35 square km). Besides, the festival is also arranged with an exhibition center for traditional plum (blossom) adornments.
During the Plum Festival, which will last until next Feb 28, the organizer will also arrange Plum Forum, "Plum Beauty" Contest, Food Fair and calligraphy, painting, and photo exhibition etc.
