Black pottery plays an important part in the Chinese pottery culture that can date back to as early as the Neolithic period (5,000 B.C.-3,000 B.C.).
Black pottery is one of the traditional handicrafts of the Dai ethnic minority in Yunnan Province. In 1995, a factory was set up besides the Octagonal Pavilion of Menghai County for pottery production in favor of the growing demand of the tourism industry. The wide range of products include pottery jars, vase, tea sets, figurines, and pots, all of which are novel, elegant, quaint, and exquisite.
