The Runcheng Cup English Translation Collection for the Long Couplet of Daguan Pavilion is held by the International Publicity Office, CPC Kunming Committee and Kunming Internet Information Office, calling for excellent translation works to the society so as to promote the city's image and express the cultural deposits.

    Located at the southwest of Kunming City, Daguan Pavilion with a gorgeous view was initially built in Kangxi Period of the Qing Dynasty. Sun Ranweng, a celebrity of Kunming in Qianlong Period of the Qing Dynasty, wrote a long couplet of 180 Chinese characters for this pavilion. Dubbed as the longest couplet in the history, it describes sceneries in Kunming and the history in Yunnan. The couplet is widely admired by tourists in ancient and modern times.

    Translation works recuitment

    Time:May 5 to December 5, 2011

    Introduction of Activity:

    Contributors may send the English translation of the whole long couplets, segments or sentences to the following addresses. The organization committee will invite experts to give periodical judgments on the incoming manuscripts, and also publish the excellent translation works via microblog, websites, newspaper, radio and TV. The organization committee will hold an awarding ceremony, presenting award certificates, rewards and prizes to winners. Contributors who translate the whole couplet or have their works published will get the souvenirs specially made by the committee.

    Requirements:

    All the translation works should be original. The organization committee has the rights to use all the incoming manuscripts, publicize for the non-business purposes and also publish them. Authors have the rights of the authorship. Contributors should give clear indications of the author’s true information, detailed and effective contacts, and keep the original manuscripts.
