A mudslide was triggered by super typhoon Rammasun in Mangshi, Dehong Dai & Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture this morning.

Super typhoon Rammasun has triggered a series of strong rainfall over Yunnan Province since its landfall on July 19. The super typhoon is estimated to continuously rip through the province until July 22.

It is said Rammasun will become the strongest typhoon to hit south China in latest 40 years. It also warned that the typhoon, the ninth one in this year, may make landfall again in the coastal areas of China.

Affected by typhoon, southeast areas of Wenshan Prefecture ushered in heavy rains from the afternoon of July 19, and a yellow rainstorm warning signal was issued by local government. Until yesterday, Malipo County of Yunnan had received accumulated precipitation of 168.6 millimeters. Southwest and south areas of Yunnan Province still see strong rainfall today.

From 17:00 of July 19 to 15:00 of July 20, altogether 9 villages and towns in the province saw downpours, with accumulated precipitation of more than 100 millimeters.

Kunming, capital city of Yunnan, also saw moderate rain and heavy rain in its south district. The temperature of the city is forecasted to range from 17 to 22 degree centigrade, with showery rains falling in approaching 24 hours.

Regions including Honghe, Yuxi, Pu’er, Xishuangbanna, Lincang, Baoshan and Dehong will see heavy rain on July 21. Other areas of the province will also be affected with small or moderate rain.

Strong rainstorm also triggered several natural disasters in the province. Some trains were suspended, and some roads were stopped by collapses.

On July 21, a mudslide hit Dehong Dai & Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan. 3 people died, 9 others missing, 4 people were injured and 79 others had been evacuated to safety places so far, according to a report issued a few hours ago.

The disaster hit Lvying village at around 6 am, toppling 13 houses and damaging 2 roads, said a spokesman of the prefecture's publicity bureau. Rescue efforts are underway.
