Yongren Yi embroidery has been added into Yunnan provincial intangible heritage list.
Now, embroidery is an important cultural and tourism product in Yongren County, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture.
Yongren Yi embroidery was originated from the Dress Competition Festival of Yi people, which dated back to more than 1,300 years ago. Yi people used to put on new cloths embroidered by themselves, on the Dress Competition Festival, which coincided with the fifteenth of the first lunar month every year.
Yi embroidery usually uses red and pink as base colors, and collocates with orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Yi embroidery is also characterized with rich in patterns. Yi people are skilled at embroidering subjects sourced from daily lives.
At present, over 10,000 people have engaged in or mastered the skill of embroidery across Yongren County. Embroidery products earned the county over 5 million yuan during the Torch Festival this year. The sales volume exceeded 20 million in 2012 in Yongren County.
