Yunnan sees few raindrop, high temperature in first half of 2014

Weather of Kunming has experienced a lot of radical changes in the first half of 2014. The city saw 3 snowfalls in January and sustained rainfall after a continuous heat in June. However, in the state of the whole province, the first half year of 2014 is a period of high temperature and few raindrops, especially from March to May.

The average precipitation of the province from January to June is comparably less than that of the same period in previous years. However, 44 counties and cities, including Kunming, ushered in their rainy season ahead of schedule. Among them, Kunming stepped into rainy season on April 30 this year, which is 24 days ahead of the routine.

In the first half of 2014, temperature of Yunnan was high on the whole. In June, 16 counties and cities in the province renewed their records on highest temperature. The temperature in June was even higher than that in May, during which 86 counties and cities saw their highest temperature.

The province came to the rainy season from the start of June, which saw 4 strong rainfalls. Among the counties and cities, Jianshui County rained most in June with average precipitation of 277 millimeters, which are 1.3 times more than that of the same period last year.

Several natural disasters were triggered by these rainfalls in the province, such as landslides, mudslides, etc. Casualties and deaths were caused.
