Due to the intercalary April on the Chinese lunar calendar, several big traditional celebrations have been postponed. Lunar June is the compassionate month for some ethnic groups, such as the Bai and Yi, both of whom spend the Torch Festival annually: Yi on lunar 24 June (11 August on Julian calendar), Bai on 25 June (12 August on Julian calendar).
The Torch Festival is widely celebrated by the Bai and Yi ethnic people scattering around Yunnan Province, including Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Kunming City, Pu’er City, Baoshan City, Honghe Yi and Hani Autonomous Prefecture, Zhaotong City, and Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture etc.
