Shilin Yi Autonomous County is an autonomous county, under the jurisdiction of Kunming, Yunnan, China.Its name has changed into Shilin County from Lunan County,which gets its name from Shilin Geopark.It is located in the east of Yunnan Province,which is close to Qujing City and Luliang County in the north.It borders Yiliang County of Kunming City in the west.The total are of Shilin County is 1680 square kilometers.
Shilin Yi Autonomous County (Chinese: 石林彝族自治县) is an autonomous county, under the jurisdiction of Kunming, Yunnan, China.The Stone Forest or Shilin (Chinese: 石林) is a notable set of limestone formations located in Shilin Yi Autonomous County, Yunnan Province, People's Republic of China, near Shilin approximately 90 km (56 mi) from the provincial capital Kunming.
The tall rocks seem to fall to the ground in the manner of stalagmites, with many looking like petrified trees thereby creating the illusion of a forest made of stone. Since 2007, two parts of the site, the Naigu Stone Forest and Suogeyi Village, have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the South China Karst.[1] The site is classified as a AAAAA-class tourist site.
Shilin (Stone Forest) has a set of remarkable karst formations, which is part of the South China Karst.It is inscribed in 2007 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Shilin County administers Lufu Street(鹿阜街道),Changhu Town(长湖镇),Guishan Town(圭山镇),Xijiekou Town(西街口镇) and Dake Village(大可乡).
There are Han,Yi,Bai,Hani,Zhuang,Dai,Miao,Hui and other minorities in Shilin County.
