Geographical Location
Gejiu is located on top of a mountain to the north of the Honghe valley, which flows from Tibetto Vietnam. To the south-west in this valley is Nansha, which lies directly below the town of Yuanyang. To the north-west lies Jianshui, and to the north Jijie. Mengzi lies 12 miles to the East. The town is located in a crater-like depression around a lake on top of a mountain. The main road enters the town from the north through a thin pass. To the east and west are steep cliffs. Those to the west are too steep to inhabit, however extensive new construction along the eastern side has created many new districts.
Introduction
Gejiu city is a county-level city of China Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, an area of 1587 square kilometers, population 453,300 (2014), known as "one of the most livable city." Gejiu county is the production of tin-based and production of lead, zinc, copper and other non-ferrous metallurgical industrial city, is world-renowned "tin can." In a famous local produce tin, tin mining history of about 2000, is China's largest production base of tin, is also the world's first production of tin base.

Ethnic Groups
The populace is primarily Han Chinese, however minorities such as the Muslim Hui, Dai from the nearby Honghe valley, and Hani from the surrounding mountains are also present.

Han Chinese(汉族)
The Hani and Yi, the creators of the monumental rice terraced mountains which have made Yuanyang famous, are the original inhabitants of these regions. Both their languages belong to the Tibeto-Burman group. Their villages can mainly be found between 1300 to 1600 metres above sea level.
