In the old time, Yimen couunty was the territory of Liangzhou prefecture. In the second year of Yuanfeng era(109 AD), it was first set as a county, name as Shuangbai(双柏), and under the region of Yizhou prefecture, its’ territory included Yimen,Shuangbai and Xinping county today. At the beginning of Tang dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of Gouzhou prefecture and renamed as Tangfeng. In the period of Nanzhao kingdom, it was the territory of Tuodong Jiedu, while during Dali kindom, it was under the administer of Shanchan prefecture. In Yuan dynasty, Yimen Thousand Family Department Header was established, later, it was reset as Zhixian county. During Ming and Qing dynasty, Yimen was the territory of Kunyang prefecture. It was not until 1977, Yimen was known as a county under the jurisdiction of Yuxi prefecture.
