Geographical Location

Midu County (弥渡县; pinyin: Mídù Xiàn) is a county in the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture located in western Yunnan Province, China.The whole county covers an area of 1523 square kilometers and about 67 kilometers away from Dali City and 286 kilometers away from Kunming.

Midu County (弥渡县) is a county in the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture located in western Yunnan Province, China. When travelling in Yunnan province, many people are impressed by the melody of the Bai ethnic love song: The Rippling Brook or "xiao he tang shui" in Chinese. Maybe the song has been given several alien names outside China, but you must be familiar with its rhyme. People do like it just because it is indigenous to Dali.Mizhi in Midu County is dubbed as the "Hometown of Huadeng opera". Many places of Yunnan have kept the tradition to perform Huadeng opera, such as Kunming, Yuxi and Yao'an. During the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival, locals here spend their own carnival-Huadeng Festival, which is pretty similar to a temple fair on which a sea of people can be seen playing, shopping, singing and dancing.

The State Council of China authorized to build Midu Autonomous County, which governs 5 towns, 3 townships, 89 village offices. There are 17 nationalities here, such as Yi, Han, Hui, Miao and Lisu. The total population is 323,478. These nationalities are industrious，simple and closely united.
