Lies on the bank of Yangtze river, Shuifu county(水富县) is rich in natural resources,especially water products. You can find many kinds of local specialties in the local market. Usually, in each town, the markets are opened three days a time, and in the county seat, markets are opened everyday. If you don’t know what to buy in these local market, some local specialties are listed as follow:
Broadleaf Holly Leaf(苦丁茶)
Shuifu county is one of the main producing areas of broadleaf holly leaf. The leaf is not only a kind of herbal tea, but also a useful medicinal material. It is named so because of its’ bitter taste and black look. In Shuifu county, farmers plant it for their own drinking, and the surplus is sold in the local market.
Huang Lading Fish(黄辣丁)
A kind of small fish which is native-born in Minjiang River(岷江). It is one of the rarest river products in Shuifu county, and its’ price is quite high, however, it deserves it. It is known to the local people as the most delicious water food. Huang Lading fish soup is a famous local dish that you can not miss.
Zhaotong Soy Sauce(昭通酱油)
It is the production of Zhaotong Wanhe Soy Sauce factory. Its’ manufacture is according to the traditional handicraft, using soybean and wheat as raw materials, and brewing for about 1 year. In the whole process, no any other accessory is added. Zhaotong soy sauce’s taste is great, and it can be preserved for a long time. It is the most famous condiment in northeastern Yunnan province.
