Shibalianshan Mt Forest Park is situated in the south part of the watershed of Huangnihe River and Kuaizehe River at the border of Yunnan and Guizhou provinces. It is 120 kilometers away from Fuyuan county seat or 70 kilometers from Luoping of Qujing Prefecture. It covers a total area of approximately 10 square kilometers and was approved as a nature reserve in the 1980s. With the vegetation coverage of 84 percent, Shibalianshan Mt impresses visitors with its dense virgin forests, centuries-old trees and lofty mountains. It’s also home to abundance of flowers such as rhododendron, camellia, kiwi blossom that flourish all the year around and give off tangy fragrance.
Shibalianshan Mt also has sheer but exotic topographic features. In the 4-km-long Yanyanggou Valley, one can find some brooks and more than 10 waterfalls whose biggest drop difference is nearly 40 meters. Sometimes one can luckily see monkeys and other wild lives “show up” in the valley. Other sights include the Swallow Cave, Mo’er Cave and Xianren (Immortals) Cave etc. Inhabited also by the Yi, Shui and other ethnic groups, Shibalianshan Mt is as well a place to experience the Torch Festival of Yi and the Singing Competition of the Shui etc.
