Mohei Town of Mojiang County is known historically for its salt production. In the 3rd year (1725) of Yongzheng Period in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), salt mines began to be massively exploited and Mohei Town became an important town in the southern frontier of Yunnan Province. The Ancient Tea-Horse Trail, ancient architectures and daks all witnessed the vicissitudes of Mohei.
Mohei is also the hometown of many a celebrity including Ms. Yang Likun (1942-2000) who is reputed actress starring in ethnic movies named "Ah Shi Ma" and "The Five Golden Flowers" etc.
In the late Qing Dynasty and even the Public of China, Mohei had become the political, economic and cultural center in Simao (Pu'er) Area. A visit to Mohei Town will make one experience its long-standing history and a host of places of interest.
