Suoyishan Village of Changhu Town of Shilin County (Stone Forest) is a seldom visited Sani community hidden among the lime stones. The Sani People (a branch of the Yi ethnic minority) have toiled and multiplied on this mysterious land from generation to generation. The traditional ways of life and the Sani ethnic culture have been well kept.
Mizhi festival is one of the main traditional festivals spent by the Sani people who are a Yi ethnic branch living in counties such as Shilin, Mi’le and Qiubei etc. Functioning as a religious service of the Sanis, it is routinely held from the second Rat Day to the Horse Day of the lunar November, lasting about seven days; it's billed as "men's day" because many ceremonies are merely attended by male Sani villagers.
30 December will see the 2012 Mizhi Festival take place in Suoyishan Village of Changhu Town, Shilin County (the journey is about 110 km from Kunming); and the locals will stage mysterious religious ceremonies, cultural shows, wrestling and bullfight etc.
