Disappointed with team, China's chief female forensic scientist resigns

News that China's chief female forensic scientist Wang Xuemei has pledged to withdraw from the Chinese Forensic Medicine Association (CFMA), has become an online hit, Beijing Times reports.

She reportedly said that she was "very disappointed about the present situation of the Chinese forensic team".

"As the vice president of CFMA, I cannot stand the current forensic expert conclusion of Ma Yue's case, so I not only want to resign from the position of vice president of CFMA, I am also determined not to participate in any activities organized by CFMA," said Wang Xuemei in the statement.

She went on to question the conclusion of the case that Ma Yue fell dead in Gulou Street subway station in 2010 in the statement.

Confirmation of whether Wang Xuemei has left the position has yet to be made, according to the report.

Ma Yue died suddenly in Gulou Street Subway Line 2 Station in August 23, 2010. But Beijing Subway Company, who is responsible for monitoring the Beijing subway, failed to transfer the video due to a fault. According to CFMA identification, the case was not considered by police to be a homicide or criminal case, but a shock death.

In a video circulating on the Internet, Ma Yue's right lower jaw has a 3 cm deep trauma. Wang Xuemei said, "This is crucial evidence".

Wang Xuemei expressed strong objection to the analysis that the trauma "may have been formed by a bump", insisting that the injury was caused by an external blunt object.

Ma Yue was left lying on the railroad tracks after the incident, while the "bump" injury is located on the right side of the jaw, no such injury-causing instruments were found at the subway station. In addition, according to the analyses of the depth of the wound, blood flow volume and blood flow direction, Wang Xuemei also concluded that a 750-volt high-voltage electrical shock contributed to the spasm-like state in which Ma Yue's body was found.

Ma Yue's case will come to a trial the next Tuesday, involving Beijing Subway Company and the police, Ma Yue's mother said Saturday, August 17 2013.
