Chicken stewed with sumac seed oil is a traditional delicacy of Lisu people who mainly live in Nujiang in Northwest Yunnan. Nujiang abounds in sumacs whose seeds could be milled into oil either for cooking or TCM (traditional Chinese medicine)
This dish is always cooked with condiments such as star anise and tsaoko cardamom etc. the chicken is at first stir-fried and after stewed for couple of hours. It tastes sweet, tender and savory.
