The Lisu ethnic members of Baihualing Village of Lushui County avail themselves of hard and tenacious woods to make cross bows, locally called "Qia Si".
The wood at first is sawn into tiny planks to be further parched over a fire pit. When the Lisu locals “install” the bow arm, they will make the wood boiled in corn liquor to soften it. After an arch is made, it will be parched again, and polished by tree leaves of some kind (e.g. tree leaves locally called “Qia Sha Bi”).
