Bamboo wares making is a traditional industry of Shuijiang County, Zhaotong City. It has enjoyed a long history, and has been innovated as the society develops.
Bamboo paintings are the highlight of the industry, and paintings of this kind are normally "woven" from a type of bamboo locally called Cizhu (Latin name: Neosino calamus affinis).
In order to weave this kind of painting, bamboos have to be cut into very thin filaments that will go through peculiar processes such as stitching, pressing and combing etc--all done by hand.
Normally, patterns vary a lot, including natural landscapes, ethnic customs, animals, and even famous artistic masterpieces such as calligraphy works and paintings.
