Sanhe Bai ethnic Village is 9 km northeast of Jianchuan County, bordering Jiuhe Township of Lijiang. It can be divided into three villages, namely Hedong, Henan, and Hebei, all the villagers of which belong to the Bai ethnic minority.
The costumes of Sanhe Bai ethnic members are highlighted by those of the ladies, who usually and traditionally use blue, purple, pink, white and black cloth to make garments themselves. It is worth mentioning that the costumes for the elderly and the young are different, and an outfit is normally made up of six parts: turban, coat, trousers, shawl, apron and handkerchief.
The old or married ladies wear costumes made of black and blue cloth rimmed with white threads, and the turban is made up of several overlapped pieces of cloth.
For the young or unmarried ladies, the costumes are much more bright and dazzling. Their turbans are made of fewer pieces of overlapped cloth, but the top is designed into a magpie-tail-like decoration. Other wearings include: coats with embroidered sleeves,
vest, loose trousers, embroidered apron, and shawls with sheepskin lower hem (sometimes round decorations similar to those on the Naxi ethnic costume).
Meanwhile, each one wears an embroidered handkerchief on the button of the vest, and the lower part of the handkerchief is normally pinned at the apron.
