Bodhidharma Cave is located at the joint place with Lijiang, Xianggelila and Delin, 15 kilometers from Tachen of Weixi County. It was said that Bodhidharma came here and found the mountain looked like a Buddha, he cognized it was matched with the Buddhist mind, so he climate up the mountain and cultivated his original nature in the cave for ten years, by the end he became the Buddha. For cherishing the memory of Bodhidharma, in 1151 local Buddhist followers built the way to the cave and built up a temple on the cliff, it took nearly 30 years.

The tall and green trees cover the mountain, during the periods of March and April the azalea and camellia are blooming everywhere. Even single stone and a tree have the beautiful and mystery tale. On the top of mountain you can see the Yulong snowcapped mountain, Haba Mountain and Biluo Mountain, the Jinshajiang flows through to south flying like a silk Hada.

Dharma (Bodhidharma) Cave is located on Xiangbi Mountain (Elephant Trunk Mountain) in Qizong Village of Weixi County, Diqing Prefecture. It is said that Dharma became a Buddha after 10 years’ meditation in the cave. (Bodhidharma, ?-536 , an Ancient Indian Monk, the founder of Zen Sect in China; the most impressive picture of him is “Crossing over the River on a Reed Withe”) In Dharma Cave, there is a temple built with wood against the cliff and shaped after the cave, forming a unique view of a stone cave being the monks’ dormitory. On each lunar April 1, the date when Dharma is said to reach his final cultivating stage as a Buddha, plenty of pilgrims come to pray and circumambulate around the mountain.

Every April of Lunar Year calendar, the Bodhidharma Temple will hold Shifo Festival, and monks will dance “Qiangmo”, and there are lots of visitors on Bodhidharma Mountain, the scene is quite hilarious. On the “Kudong Festival” of November, the monks will dance mask dance lasting a day.
