Ms. Yang Likun, an artist and member of Yi ethnic group, was born on April 27 of 1941 in Mo’hei Town of Ning’er County in South Yunnan’s Pu’er Municipality, and passed away on July 21 of 2000 in Shanghai. She got reputed in the world by starring in Five Golden Flowers and Ah Shi Ma, two films based respectively on the lives or stories of Bai and Yi People in Yunnan’s Dali and Stone Forest. She successfully portrayed Jinhua (Golden Flower), a Bai lady and the leading role in Five Golden Flowers and Ah Shi Ma, a Yi lady and the leading role in Ah Shi Ma, both of whom have contributed much to the fames of the two films as masterpieces in China’s film industry. Yang hence has become the screen idol of generations for over half century, and is the Goddess of Beauty in the minds of audience.
The former residence of Yang Likun is located in Mo’hei Town of Ning’er County. It is the place that Yang was born and spent her childhood. First built in 1893, the house was out of repair and badly damaged. Fortunately, Ning’er Government sponsored the restoration in May of 2009 and it took a brand-new look in October of 2010, covering a total area of 1,250 square meters (with 600 being architectures). The memorial is designed in a wood-and-earth architectural style of “a Courtyard with Three Houses and One Screen Wall”, flying eaves and tile roofs etc. The memorial also functions to exhibit the life stories and artistic achievements of Ms. Yang Likun.
