The nature reserve consists of Tongbiguan forests of Yingjiang County and some forests of Longchuan County and Ruili City in the west of Yunnan Province, covering about 400,000 mu (26,667 hectares). Situated at the transitional zone between the South Subtropics and the North Tropics, blocked by plateau in its north, and alternatively influenced by the India Ocean Monsoon and dry air masses of Arabia and the India Peninsula, the nature reserve has long-duration sunshine exposure, and exhibits apparent dry and wet seasons. The annual precipitation here is 1,500 mm), with an annual temperature of 19.5C (67.1F).
All these natural conditions mentioned above have given birth to forest sights combining tropical rainforests, (south) subtropical rainforests, and temperate latifoliate forests. The nature reserve of Tongbiguan boasts fauna and flora resources. According to statistics, there are 195 kinds of higher plants, falling to 63 families and 103 genera. And some of the fauna resources are: (1)-Animals under state protection First class: 10 kinds; Second class: 20 kinds (2)-Birds under state protection First class: two kinds, such as green peacocks; Second class: 36 kinds.
