As it is planned, Kunming will build seven subway lines with a total length of 304km (189 miles), linking the major passenger distribution centers in the city. Currently, there are three lines in operation, Line 1, first phase of Line 2 and 6, while the Line 1 (Chenggong Branch Line), second phase of Line 2 and 6 as well as Line 3 are under construction. Line 1 and 2, crossing at South Ring Road, are used as one line.

 Line 1: It has total length of 26 miles (41.4km) with 31 stations. Currently, the section from South Ring Road to University Town South, linked with Line 2, is in service.

 Line 6: This is an airport special line with a total length of 15.95 miles (25.67km), linking Kunming City center and Changshui International Airport. The first phase has a length of 11.2 miles (18.018km) with four stations, including the East Bus Station, Dabanqiao, Airport Front and Airport Center. Currently, only the East Bus Station and Airport Center Station are in operation. The first phase of line 6 operates daily from 09:00 to 18:00 at an interval of 25 minutes. The whole journey takes 23 minutes and the ticket price is CNY5 one way. The second phase is designed to be 4.34 miles (6.99km), running from Tangzixiang to East Bus Station via Juahua Station.

Tip: Free shuttle bus R1 runs between Juhua Village and the East Bus Station. The bus operates from 08:20 to 17:20 every 10 minutes.

Ticket Price

The price varies based on the distance. It is CNY2 for the first 2.5 miles (4km), CNY3 for 2.5-5.6 miles (4-9km), CNY4 for 5.6-10 miles (9-16km), CNY5 for 10-16 miles (16-25km), CNY6 for 16-22 miles (25-36km), CNY7 for 22-30 miles (36-49km).
