Menghai county has formed the transportation system consists of provincial road, county road and village road. Long-distance bus is the main way for local people who take a long journey. There are also short-distance buses, taxi, and minibus in Menghai county county.

1.China National Highway 214

China National Highway 214 (G214) runs from Xining, Qinghai to Jinghong, Yunnan. It is 3,256 kilometres in length and runs south from Xining towards Tibet, and ends in Yunnan Province.

2.Asian Highway Network AH3 (alternative route)

Route AH1 is proposed to extend from Tokyo to the border with Bulgaria west of Istanbul and Edirne, passing through both Koreas, China and other countries in Southeast, Central and South Asia. The corridor is expected to improve trade links between East Asian countries, India and Russia. To complete the route, existing roads will be upgraded and new roads constructed to link the network. US$ 25 billion has been spent or committed as of 2007, with additional US$ 18 billion needed for upgrades and improvements to 26,000 km of highway.

Taxis can be found everywhere in Menghai county county ,or people who want to get to their destination as quickly as possible, taxis are wise choice. Generally, the starting fare is CNY5, and CNY1.4 will be charged for each kilometer.In the county seat, buses run on the main street, it will not take you much time on the bus, because the urban area is not too big. Taxi is convenient for someone who get into emergency, the starting price is cheap. However, people would like to take buses or motorbike in the county seat rather than taxi.

Minibus is the principle way for local people to travel a short distance. Passengers may wait for a minibus on the highway or just call the driver. Usually, the minibus will take you anywhere you want to go in a short distance, and the price is cheap.
