Endowed with pleasant climate, Yuxi is rich in crops and tobacco leaves, hence its honor 'Barn of Middle Yunnan Province' and 'Hometown of Yunnan Tobacco'. Yuxi Cigarette Company (Hongta Group) has become a famous cigarette making company. Its product brands such as Hongtashan, Ashima and Hongmei have been popular for many years in China. The area also has beautiful natural sceneries and colorful cultures. Various festivals, dances, musics and folk cultures of different ethnic minority groups should not be missed when traveling here. In addition, it is the hometown of Nie Er (1912-1935), the famous musician who has wrote many revolution songs including China's present national anthem

‣Where Yuxi Is

Yuxi is located in the center of Yunnan province, about 90 kilometres (56 mi) south of Kunming, the provincial capital. Like much of the central and eastern parts of the province, it is part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.The area is 15,285 km² (5,902 sq mi) and the population is approximately 2.5 million.

‣Yuxi FestivalsThe traditional folk festival of Han in Yuxi used to be a religious procession in New Year. It is held annually from January 1st to 25th by Chinese lunar calendar. The festival, also called Rice Noodle Festival or Lamp Festival, gets its name due to the traditional activities of eating rice noodle, performing traditional opera with lamps as props on that day. The superstitious customs no longer exist, but the tradition of hosting daughter and son-in-laws along with relatives and friends for dinner and rice noodle has been passed on through the generations.  

‣What to Visit in Yuxi

●Chengjiang Fossil Site:one of the best-preserved sites of Cambrian fauna.It presents the appearance of marine organisms 541 million years ago, and provides precious evidence for unveiling the mystery of early evolution.

●Fuxian Lake:the second deepest lake ¡n Fuxianhu Lake in China. It is so especially for its clean water without pollution where is very ideal place for the vacations and holidays.

●Tonghai Old Town:The old town in Tonghai began to appear in West Han Dynasty under the foot of Xiushan Mountain and the city was formed in Nanzhao period of Tang Dynasty.

●Xiushan park: is a large temple park in the style of China's famous Holy Mountains, set on Xiushan mountain, overlooking Tonghai city and Qilu lake. 

‣Yuxi Climate  

Yuxi gets lots of sun and has a pleasant, mild climate: neither hot in summer nor cold in winter. It feels a bit like spring all year around since the Tropic of Cancer crosses the region. The average temperature is between 16 to 24°C. 

‣Yuxi Food

Sour spicy is the favorite taste of Yuxi people. So dishes here are kind of spicy and sour. Famous dishes here are Spicy chicken soup with herbs on Yudai Road, Roasted duck on Daying Street, Cold Rive Noodles, Ice Porridge etc.Special Local Products: Tonghai bean powder candy; sesame pieces; Huaning dried rice noodles; 'three treasures' on Mt. Yuanlao (beet, Citou Cai-a kind of potherb with thorns and Yangnai Cai (a kind of potherb with sheep-milk-like juice).

‣Yuxi Travel Tips

From Kunming to Yuxi, it takes approximately two hours by train. There are two bus stations in Yuxi. The Central Bus Station is located near the crossroad on Shanhu Rd. Buses to Kunming and other provincial cities start from there every day. The Chengxi Bus Station is located on Qixing Street, from where visitors can go to Yuanjiang, Chengjiang, Jiangchuan and other counties. The city-buses here are quite convenient and cheap. The general ticket is from CNY1 to CNY2 per person.
