As we all know, Yunnan has a large number of ethnic groups which ranks only second to Xinjiang in China. Different ethnic groups have different customs, traditions, beliefs, living ways, and also taboos. Do not touch the head of the monk while visiting a temple or in some other occasions.
While visiting the family of Yi Ethnic Group, do not step over the fire pit.
While visiting a local Tibetan family, do not stand on the threshold.
While visiting a temple or the bamboo house of local Dai Ethnic Group, take off your shoes.
For a Tibetan related visit, wearing short trousers, slippers, and some other informal clothes is a kind of disrespect to the locals.
