Bamao is a Sani ethnic village famous for making the Yi traditional musical instrument--guitar-like Dasanxian (big three-stringed instrument).
The profound and rich ethnic culture of the small village has given birth to different kinds of handmade Dasanxian instruments. Compared to the same instruments made elsewhere, Bamao Dasanxian instruments are practically and artistically unique.
Each instrument is made from local strange-looking timber (mostly roots of trees), and the genius designing derives from the appearance of the material though it is totally handmade.
