▪ Yuanyang County (元阳)

It is a popular destination with photographers, this area is one of the Hani minority regions of Yunnan. The Honghe Hani Rice Terraces has been listed in the world heritage list on 22nd June, 2013, became the China's forty-fifth World Heritage sites. 

▪ Jianshui County (建水)

Most of the 1,439,673 Hanis live in the valleys between the Yuanjiang and Lancang rivers, the vast area between the Ailao and Mengle mountains in southern Yunnan Province. They are under the jurisdiction of the Honghe Hani-Yi Autonomous Prefecture, which includes Honghe, Yuanyang, Luchun and jinping counties.

‣ Transportation in Honghe

The Dianyue Railway (Kunming-Henei) is a main railway in Honghe Prefecture. It was built by Frenchmen in 1908. It’s one of the only two narrow-gauge railways in the worle. It’s also the only international railway in Yunnan at present. In addition, there is another railway in Honghe Prefecture. It’s the Mengbao Railway (Mengzi-Baoxiu). It starts from the Bisezhai Railway Staion which is on the Kunhe Railway and ends in the Baoxiu Rialway station, via Mengzi, Jieji, Jianshui and Shiping. 

‣ Travel tips of Honghe

•Hekou is a national first-grade port in the southeast end of Honghe bordered by Vietnam. Kunming-Hekou Railway runs through Honghe Prefecture, but it is a narrow-gauge railway. The carriages are narrower than ordinary ones. Traveling by bus will save several hours over making the trip by train. 

•Kunming is about 4 hours' drive to Honghe and 3.5 hours to Jianshui County. Buses going here can be easily found in Yunnan Tourist Passenger Transport Bus Station in Minhang Lu of Kunming. Regular buses serve well among counties and cities of the prefecture. Local villagers, however, would usually thumb lifts from wagon drivers.
