Jiasa Town is situated by Jiasa River (Xinping County) on the upper reaches of the Red River at the mid-east foot of the Ailao Mountain. There live in Jiasha 11 nationalities most of whom are Huayao Dai (or Flowery Dai), a branch of the Dai ethnic minority, accounting for nearly 42 percent of the total population. Jiasa is a noted Dai cultural town and is highlighted by the landscapes of the Ailao Mountains, historical and cultural heritages of the former chieftain’s mansion. Main attractions in jiasa include Banyan Tree Garden, Betel National Eco Garden, Longxi Manor, the Ancient Tea and Horse Road and Shimen Gorge etc. Huajie Festival (Flower Street Festival) is spent on each lunar January 13th and May 6th by the Huayao Dai members who will be traditionally dressed and prepare “Yang Luo Fan” (Meal Prepared in Bamboo Basket) for lovers. It’s believed that the Flowery Dai are decedents of the Dian Royal Family in the period of the Dian Kingdom about 2,000 years ago. Nowadays, the Flowery Dai ladies have kept the customs of wearing colorful costumes and bright decorations, having tattoos and dying teeth as people did in the Dian Kingdom.
