There is a local fish called anti-wave fish that favors clear and cool water. The fish swims against currency to the caves around the shore. The fishermen discovered this unique habit of the fish and dug ditches to attract and catch fish by whipping water.
The zone is bestowed with rich tourism resources, including Fuxian Lake with first-class water quality, anti-wave fish, springs, old trees, wild animals, fish tunnels and fishing caves descended from ancestors, Cliffside carvings, whipping-wheel fishing
The zone is located at an open terrain, nicely integrated into the villages and farmlands surrounding it.
To preserve Fuxian Lake and anti-wave fish and maintain the sustainable development of the local tourism, Yuxi Municipal Government and Jiangchuan County Government have taken various measures, including prohibition of use of mobile boats in the lake in August 2004, construction of waste water channel and waste water treatment station, construction of artificial wetland, and establishment of anti-wave fish breeding station.
From 1986 to 1998, local fishermen built many sheds with straw and plastic for commercial operation. In the 1990s, with the increases of environmental pollution and the number of visitors, anti-wave fish significantly declined. To reasonably develop tourism resources, Jiangchuan County Government in 1998 invested 2 million yuan in construction of 24 restaurants, roads and parking space and removed all the sheds, which greatly improved the ecological and tourism environment. In 1999, to cooperate the World Expo in Kunming, the county government again invested more than 1.5 million yuan in renovating tourism facilities in Mingxing area. With these measures, the zone has become more attractive and its reputation has been rising with the number of visitors increasing continuously. In 2004 and 2005, more investments were made to improve tourism facilities by Mingxing Village Committee and the total investment reached 4.5 million yuan.
From 2005 to 2007, visitors to Mingxing reached 300,000 annualy and the income in 2005 and 2006 amounted to 1.7 million yuan and in 2007, 1.86 million yuan.
