The residence is located in No.3 Beimenjie Street in Hongta District. It is a two-floor architecture in Qing Dynasty style. The national anthem composer Nie’r lived and studied here in his childhood. The house was built by Nie’r’s grandfather Nie Liandeng in late Qing Dynasty. Nie’r’s father Nie Hongyi inherited the house and lived here for a long time.
In the year of Guangxu 28 (1902), Nie’r’s father went with his wife to Kunming for medical practice and Nie’r was born in 1912. Nie’r came back many times to visit relatives in Yuxi and left many memories in the house.
Today, Nie’r has become an important part of Yuxi and symbols and his name can be seen in many places. The city now has Nie’r Cultural Square, Nie’r Park, Nie’r library, Nie’r Primary School, Nie’r Choir and Nie’r Concert Hall. His music talent has become the soul of Yuxi, which distinguishes Yuxi from other cities.
