Jiangchuan County is the arena of Yunnan's largest fishing festival kicking off in every December since 2005. The week-long event attracts throngs from both Yunnan and other places to join the jubilant fishing activities and the synchronic plateau aquatic product fair. In November 2009, the fishing festival was entitled "Top Ten County-level Festivals of China".

Jiangchuan, situated in the central Yunnan and besides Xingyun Lake and Fuxian Lake--which is the deepest in Yunnan Province, boasts 163,000 mu (10,870 hectares) of water area. The annual output of aquatic product hits about 5,200 tonnes, for which Xingyun Lake is dubbed "a natural fish farm" with the output of 4,000 tonnes. According to statistics, the annual volume of relevant aquatic deals in Jiangchuan amounts to at least 10,000 tonnes, worth over 100 million yuan ($16.04mn).
