Wutongzouyin is another distinctive bronze handicraft in Yunnan Province. It was first manufactured in Shiping County.
Bronze is used as the background on which various intaglio patterns are carved. Silver or gold is melted to fill the intaglio patterns. When the silver or gold stuffing cools down, the whole piece of work will be further polished and treated chemically. The final product-patterns appear silvery or golden in sharp contrast with the bronze background; and the whole piece of work gives a decorative effect with classic elegance. Silver and bronze are the major materials for making this kind of handicraft, so it is vividly called "Wu Tong Zou Yin" which in Chinese means "silvery patterns inlaid in black bronze".
