  • A people at waterfalls-The Buyi people

    The Buyi nationality is one of the ethnic minorities in China. It has a population of 2,545,059, among which more than 2 million live in Guizhou province, constituting 95% of the total number.

  • A nationality that crosses water by overhead cable

    The Nus call themselves "Nusu", "Anu", "Along", and "Nu people", "Nu people (different from the former one in Chinese written and pinyin forms)", " Nuzi", etc, in historical records. It's one of the Chinese minority groups, and has a population of 27123. A small number scatters over Lijiang, Yongsheng, Weixi, Zhongdian and Yanyuan, Muli in Sichuan, and lives together with the Hans, Naxis, Bais and Yis.

    The Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna is located in southwestern China; where over a dozen of ethnic minorities live together, including Dai, Hani, Bulang, Jinuo, Lahu, Yao, etc. During the Tang Dynasty and the Song Dynasty, this area was under the administration of local authorities of Nanzhao and Dali;

    Dai is one of the 56 nationalities in China, with a population of 1,075,128, mainly residing in Yunnan Province: Xishuangbanna Autonomous Prefecture of Dai Minority, Dehong Autonomous Prefecture of Dai and Jingpo Minority, Dima, Menglian, Jinggu, Xinping, Jinping, Yuanjiang, and Shuangjiang.

    The Suis is one of the minority nationalities in China. It has a population of 345993 and they inhabit mainly in Sadu Sui Autonomous County, Libo, Duyun, Dushan counties in the Southern Guizhou Bouyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, and Kaili, Liping, Rongjiang and Congjiang counties in the Southeastern Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture. A few scatter over the west of Guangxi Zhang Autonomous Region.

  • "Old Tea Farmers"-the De'ang Nationality

    As one of China's ethnic minorities, the number of De'ang people in China totals 15,462 at present. Most of them inhabit Luxi County of the Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture and Zhenkang County in Yunnan Province. The others live scattered in Yingjiang, Ruili, Longchuan, Baoshan, Lianghe and Gengma counties.

    The Zhuang Nationality, the most populous ethic minority in China, has a population of over 15.4 million. They are mainly distributed in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous State in Yunnan, Lianshan Zhuang and Yao Autonomous County in Guangdong, and Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous State in Guizhou etc.

    The Qinghai-Xizang Plateau has vast prairie with plenty of water and lush grass. The economy of Tibetans mainly focuses on plateau animal husbandry and farming.Sheep, goat and yak are main domestic animals, and highland barley and wheat are main crops. Zanba, highland barley wine, buttered tea, flesh, milk, etc are main food and drink for peasants and herdsmen.

  • Achang Ethnic Minority

    More than 90 percent of the 27,708 (by 1990) Achangs live in Longchuan, Lianghe and Luxi counties in the Dehong Dai-Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in southwestern Yunnan Province. The rest live in Longling County in the neighboring Baoshan Prefecture.

  • An old resident in the snowy plateau

    The Zang nationality is one of the minority nationalities, and it has over 4,590,000 people. It mainly spreads over Xizang Autonomous Region, Haibei, Huangnai, Hainan, Guoluo, Yushu, Zang Autonomous prefectures and Haixi Moungolian and Zang Autonomous prefecture in Qinghai, Aba and Ganzi Zang Autonomous prefecture and Muli Autonomous County in Sichuan, Diqing Zang Autonomous prefecture in Yunnan, and Gannan Zang Autonomous prefecture and Tianshui Zang Autonomous County in Gansu.

  • An old resident of the Awa Mountain

    The Wa nationality is one of the minority nationalities of China. Now it has a population of more than 350,000. It mainly distributes over mountain area or half-mountain area of Cangyuan, Ximeng, Lancang, Menglian, Shuangjiang, Genma, Yongde, Zhenkang counties in the Southwestern Yunnan, which is the "Awa mountain area" between the Lancangjiang River and Sa'erwenjiang River and in the south of the Nushan mountain chain. They live together with the Hans, Dais, Blangs, De'angs, Lisus, and Lahus.
