Since last November, Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden (Garden) based in Mengla County of Xishuangbanna Prefecture in South Yunnan has been receiving 2 to 3 visiting groups each day, who have made special efforts to travel there for watching or taking pictures of birds. It’s been a peculiar scene that visitors with fancy equipments take shots of birds around the Garden. Most of the bird fans are from Beijing, Chongqing, Guangdong, Taiwan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Yunnan itself and so on.

By frequently visiting the Garden, these special visitors have given birth to a view-data bank for avian resources and renewed the birds list of the Garden with unrecorded species such as black-necked tailorbird, purple sunbird, and Tyto Alba (barn owl) etc. Most of the fans will most probably introduce their experiences to people around them, which hence well extends the fame of Science Popularization Tourism of the Garden.

A Bird Watching Festival is to be sponsored during the Spring Festival in the Garden whose participants will include Thai Birds Conservancy, TNC (The Nature Conservancy), and Birds Watching Societies of Beijing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Yunnan etc. Those winning photo works of 2010 offered by birdnet.cn will also be exhibited then.
