Not only for Dai nationality, but also for De’ang minority people (known as Palaung people as well), the Water-sprinkling Festival is one of the most important traditional events. Thus, the special cakes, the splashing cakes, are, of course, the essential local snack in the De’ang (Palaung people). Furthermore, the cakes are always cooked to entertain in almost wedding ceremonies and funeral rites.
Here is the recipe for the special cakes. First, add some brown sugar into the finest glutinous rice flour. Then knead the dough and steam it to be soft but tasty. You can also add some stuffing into the cakes. It is said that that cakes can be kept for about a week and they can be fried when turn hard, which taste exactly like the rice cakes.
