Xinhua Village in Heqing County of Dali Prefecture is really famous for its production of silver handicrafts that has been known for more than 500 years. As early as in the Ming dynasty, county annuals of Heqing recorded the local production of ornaments with silver, gold, copper or iron. In Xinhua Village there are some 1,280 craftsmen, young, old, male and female, who specialize in different things, such as traditional bracelets, necklaces, earrings, pots, basins, bowls, Buddhism articles, assorted ornaments, etc; and each house is a workshop or a factory.
Marked as Shizhaizi silverwares, silverwares from Xinhua Village are especially popular in ethnic areas of Yunnan, Sichuan, Qinghai, Tibet, Xinjiang, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Guizhou and Hunan, some are even exported to India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, Japan and the United States.
