Da Jiu Jia
"Da Jiu Jia" is a kind of Tengchong snack cooked with Erkuai, a type of rice cake particular to the Yunnan Province.
When the Qing army invaded Kunming, the Ming Dynasty Emperor Zhu Youlang fled to the Tengchong District. By the time he arrived, he was starving. Fortunately, a plate of stir-fried rice cakes was waiting for him, and it's said that upon finishing the dish he proclaimed, "Stir fried rice pieces saved my life!", hence the name Da Jiu Jia which means "to save emperor's life".
Tengchong Erkuai is quite soft and glutinous, white in color and sticky in taste. Cut the Tengchong Erkuai into diamond shape, and fried it with pork, ham, pickled Chinese cabbage, green onion, spinach, tomato, egg, pickled chilli pepper and etc. And it is normally served with a bowl of soup of pork and picked cabbage.
