It is one of the traditional snacks in Shidian County, Baoshan City. The locally grown white peas have been widely used to make beancurd for at least 100 years.
In the past, locals used to hang the beancurd slices, which are in fact the outcome of spreading bean milk on banana trunks, and roast them when cooking. But these slices were too thick to be sundried easily, with the quality badly affected. People then used bamboo tiles for making slices, a move that thinned the slices and bettered the quality--and the bamboo tiles further add somewhat fragrant flavour.
