In the Dai ethnic language, "Nanmi" is the general name for all sorts of jams or sauces which include at least 10 such as Nanmibu (crab jam), Nanmipa (jam made from Chinese cabbage), and Nanminannuo (jam made from sour bamboo shoots). And the Nanmipa is the most popular and nearly available in each Dai household.
These jams are usually taken as appetisers to go with green vegetables and rice.
