"Haoben" is the transliteration from a Dai ethnic word which means crisp pancake. It is also a dessert of dim sum of the Dai ethnic people prepared during the Water Splashing Festival.
Basic materials for Haobeng include glutinous rice, black sugar, yolk and sesame--all of which are ground together for making dough. When cakes made from the dough are dried, they can be prepared by baking.
