Er’hai Lake in Dali is a gifted paradise for different fishes, among which Schizothorax taliensis and carp are most famous. Schizothorax taliensis is referred to as Gong Yu or Bow Fish because it is usually seen spring out of the water with its tail held in its mouth. Fish cooked in a marmite is a famous local dish in Dali; it enjoys an ever-increasing popularity and is denominated “Dali Marmite Fish”.
The traditional way for preparing Marmite Fish is simmering or stewing. Other stuffs going with it are chicken, mushrooms, green veggies and assorted spices. The fish dish is nourishing, tender, tasty, and nutritious.
