On Chinese New Year's Day, a girl named Tu Ran visited Lugu Lake with her mom and dad. After the trip, the 10-year-old girl built a red "Happy Bridge" model using glue.
The trip was organized by Tu's math teacher in conjunction with other parents prior to the winter holiday. The children were then asked to design a bridge model or write an essay on bridges. During their trip to Lugu Lake, Tu carefully observed every passing bridge, steel cable bridge and suspension bridge. She photographed the bridges with a mobile phone.
After lunch, with help from her dad, she painted and cut the cardboard and wood. It took her an hour to build the "Bridge of Happiness". Because she assumed her bridge was built on the Yangtze River, she placed a piece of rectangular cardboard painted in blue under the bridge to represent the river.
