1,500 yoga enthusiasts from all over the world gathered on the shore of Dali’s Erhai Lake(洱海), at the foot of Cangshan Mountain(苍山) on July 7. The 2nd Sino-India Yoga Summit, one part among the series of activities of 2014 Friendly Exchange Year between China and India, was held in Dali.
The summit was started from July 7, and will end on July 12. On its opening ceremony, artists of China and India separately performed Tai Chi and Yoga to exhibit ancient arts of the two countries.
Indian ambassador to China Mr. Ashok K. Kantha attended the summit and gave a speech on the opening ceremony. “Indian yoga has more than 3,000 years’ history. Representing Indian glorious culture, yoga has been popular among people all over the world. To enhance friendly exchange between Indian people and Chinese people, India organizes series of activities in cities of China.”
Dali, endowed with beautiful natural sceneries and unique cultural environment, is a very nice place suitable for practicing yoga. The head of Indian SVYASA Yoga University Nagendra said, “I can fully concentrate on doing routine yoga in Dali. The city enables people to integrate into the nature easily.”
Dali used to be a main tourism distribution center in the history, connected India with China via the Ancient Tea Horse Road. It has deep cultural roots with India. That is also the reason why the Sino-India yoga summit was held in Dali.
Yoga has become an important link for non-governmental exchanges between China and India, Ashok K. Kantha noted in his speech.
