A Yunnan folk dance workshops opening ceremony was held in the Kunming Youth Activity Center on Aug 15. Altogether 180 teacher and student representatives from Taiwan will come and join the Yunnan folk dance workshop in two batches.
"In 2008, I brought 10 Taiwan students here to learn about Yunnan folk dance for the first time. The experience was pretty good and impressive," said Zhuang Mei-qiang, director general of Taipei's cultural association. "Yunnan has abundant sources of ethnic folk dances and kids could experience real folk dances here," added Zhuang.
Meng Fan is the first Taiwan student of Minzu University of China. She chose to learn dancing there because she thinks she can learn traditional and authentic folk dance in the Chinese mainland. "I plan to bring the ethnic folk dance art back to Taiwan after I finish learning," said Meng.
"In 2003, we introduced folk dance teaching materials from the Chinese mainland, and those teaching materials are so popular in Taiwan," Zhuang said.
