Yunnan Cultural Week will open from August 27 to Sept 6 at the Palace of Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
The week is jointly held by the information office of the State Council, the Yunnan Provincial People's Government, the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva, other international organizations in Switzerland, and the United Nations in Geneva.
A number of interesting activities are going to be presented, such as an opening ceremony, a Chinese welcoming reception, a book donation event, a photo exhibition of beautiful landscapes in Yunnan, a Yunnan intangible cultural heritage show, a Chinese film screening, and a food party in the UN DSR Dining Hall.
In the opening ceremony, a song and dance show called Cai Yu Zhui Yue ("Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon") will reflect the essence of folk art in Yunnan. Several performances of Yi, Naxi, Dai and Hani ethnic groups are set to exhibit the diversity and splendor of Chinese culture.
The Chinese welcome reception and food party will feature Yunnan cuisine on the international stage. Chefs from Yunnan will make spring rolls (a thin sheet of rolled, filled and fried dough), amber-like walnuts and colorful rice noodles on the spot, taking guests on a gourmet journey.
Meanwhile, the photo exhibition will use more than 80 works to unveil the distinctive landscapes, traditions and cultures in Yunnan. Inheritors of intangible cultural heritage are prepared to produce purple pottery, wood carvings and silver-inlaid black copper. They will also write sutras (Buddhist texts) on leaves in front of the audience. Visitors will also have the chance to watch films recording the ethnic traditions of Yunnan.
The series of activities aims to present Yunnan by offering a multi-sensory experience to visitors.
